Pursuing Justice Newsletter December 2025

LASCO EDITOR

The justice gap isn’t just a statistic—it’s a daily barrier for thousands of Ohioans. Every day, families in our communities face crises that threaten their stability and safety—an eviction notice, a domestic violence situation, or a legal issue that could derail their future. At LASCO, we see these challenges up close, and we know that legal help can change lives.

Consider Alison. After her partner left, she returned to work earning $25,000 a year, but still couldn’t afford rent or child care for her three-year-old son.

When her applications for housing and child care assistance were denied, a community partner referred her to us. Our team stepped in, advocating for child care assistance and challenging an improper housing denial based on outdated criminal history. Within weeks, Alison had both child care and a housing voucher. She told us, “I would not be where I’m at today without your help.” Moments like these remind me why we do this work.

Stories like Alison’s are powerful, but for every family Legal Aid helps, many more are turned away because the need outweighs LASCO’s resources. That’s why I chair the Development Committee. I’ve seen firsthand how Legal Aid's work transforms lives and gives people the chance to build a stable future. Every dollar you give goes directly to providing legal representation for those who otherwise have no voice in the civil justice system. Your support ensures families can stay in their homes, survivors can find safety, and communities can thrive.

Please make your donation today at lasco.org/donate. When you give to Legal Aid, you’re giving hope—and you’re standing for justice.
