Protecting SNAP Benefits
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit theft, also known as SNAP skimming, occurs when thieves copy electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card information using an illegal device on an ATM or retailer’s card-swiping machine and purchase food and beverages using stolen SNAP benefits.
There are simple steps SNAP recipients can take to help protect against fraud. And, earlier this year, Governor DeWine signed bipartisan legislation that will transition Ohio’s SNAP EBT cards from stripe to chip cards, providing families with additional security.
