Inside LASCO: Seniors Team Feature

For many older Ohioans, thinking about what will happen to their homes and belongings after they pass can feel overwhelming. LASCO’s senior planning is designed to bring dignity and peace of mind to that complicated process. Senior Staff Attorney Miranda Anandappa helps seniors in rural communities create plans to protect their property and support their families.

“A lot of people come to us unsure of what steps they should take or worried they’ve waited too long,” she said. "They just want to know that what they’ve worked so hard for won’t be lost.”

Most of her work centers on estate planning and creating wills, helping clients avoid probate whenever possible. Clients of all ages can benefit from setting up a Transfer on Death affidavit (TOD), which allows real estate to pass directly to their beneficiary upon their death without having to go through probate.

Anandappa also helps clients with tangled titles—cases where a home is legally owned by a deceased family member, which makes it difficult to sell the property or give it to a relative. By helping clients plan, Anandappa works to keep property in the hands of trusted family members and maintain generational wealth.

“Working with seniors is so fulfilling. They are the kind of clients who are so appreciative no matter what you do,” she said. “Having someone walk them through their options gives them a sense of dignity and peace of mind.”
