Earned Income Tax Credit: A Critical Financial Boost for Working Ohioans

By: LASCO

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is one of the most impactful tools for reducing poverty and supporting low- to moderate-income workers.

This refundable credit can significantly boost a taxpayer’s refund, with eligible individuals and families receiving up to $7,830 for the 2024 tax year. On average, Ohioans received $2,784 for the 2023 tax year, helping them cover essential expenses and reduce financial stress.

And for many taxpayers, the EITC is the largest check or deposit they will receive all year.

Who Qualifies?

For the 2024 tax year, taxpayers earning below $66,819 may qualify, but determining eligibility can be tricky. Fortunately, the IRS has a handy tool taxpayers can use to find out if they’re eligible. Check out the EITC Assistant to check eligibility.

Why It Matters

Despite the incredible benefits of the EITC, more than 20% of eligible households didn’t claim the credit in 2023, leaving millions of dollars on the table that could have been used to cover basic needs. That’s why it’s so important to help spread the word about this potentially life-changing tax credit!
